The world of anime encompasses a broad variety of subjects. Most people – those who have never gone too far into the world of anime – seem to believe that anime is targeted exclusively at children or adolescents. However, those who have seen animation always throughout their lives, and thus had the opportunity to fully experience the anime universe, will understand that certain shows are certainly not for children. In reality, some anime may contain mysterious, nuanced themes that clearly relate – and cater to – adults, and some shows may contain material for adults, such as nudity, graphical violence scenes, etc. We tried in this list to include mature shows that an older audience especially likes and whose theme adults appreciate and understand better. We speak about anime with a good plot, in-depth character analysis and sexual sprinkling, emotional discomfort, and even gore.
In this article, you will get to know about some of the best and amazing mature anime that you should watch if you are a fan of anime that deals with the more mature side of the medium.

3. Clannad After Story
Clannad After Story is one of those shows that pretends to follow the already known formula of storytelling but then ends up moving well above the wishes of the viewer. It is regarded as one of the best mature-themed anime. Tomoya and Nagisa’s love story came to a very satisfactory checkpoint at the end of the first season, where Tomoya confesses his feelings for Nagisa in an adorable way, and we may have met them happily ever after. But they weren’t, because that’s not how life functions. True life doesn’t just end with a confession scene. The story of Clannad proceeds with less regard to the love feelings of its characters (not that they have ever been so important), but more to their hardships as the world throws them into misery and suffering. Between Tomoya’s proving his dependence and Nagisa’s dealings with her crippling body, the couple reveals that even after going through the most extreme mental upheaval and loss of life, the family can still come together.

Attack On Titan has taken the world by surprise and has become a new icon, not only catching the hearts of anime lovers but also non-anime lovers. Attack On Titan is an exciting action sequence with amazing animation and a beautiful soundtrack. There are also several aspects of intrigue when attempting to snoop for traitors and uncover the identity of those titans. Attack On Titan doesn’t hold back when it comes to the terrible death scenes that the Titans are inducing, and the deaths are becoming more brutal. It is one of the best anime for mature anime fans.

Together, Hanabi and Mugi both chose to substitute each other for their beloved ones by their unwanted feelings for unattainable individuals. It is one of the best anime for mature anime fans. Think twice before you start Kuzu no Honkai if you are dreaming of your conventional shoujo with tender feelings and platonic interactions. The reason for this display is evident from the first episode and is listed as his. Kuzu no Honkai describes delicious romances, the treachery of evil individuals, and all human flaws. It is painfully realistic, and much of the time rage frustration.
8. Code Geass
It is still a wonder for the anime community and was one of the most celebrated achievements of Sunrise Inc. which has influenced a number of series and has become the standard for all mecha anime. It is regarded as one of the best mature anime. It is one of Sunrise Studio’s best animes but is also one of the top anime series. The International Anime Fair has won numerous prizes, including the “Best Anime.” Manga, light novels, OVA, and even video games are included in the franchise. The story follows the lord of the spiritual power of Geass, Lelouch Lamperouge, the prostitute Prince of Britannia who led his father and his former UK revolt. Code Geass, which is known as having moral problems, social struggle, political instability, and radical populism, relies on his informative dialogue and well-designed characters, and quick action to further his story.
9. Prison School
Hachimitsu Private Academy was a prestigious boarding-school for all girls, but it switched to a review of School policies, as even boys can now register. Only 5 students, Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre, and Jo, are accepted but ostracised quickly. It is one of the best anime for mature anime fans. The five boys decide therefore to follow a risky path: they can not interact with their schoolmates and prefer to peer into their toilets. They were, of course, discovered and thrown into the dungeon, but they did not know what the “punishment” meant for the children, really … Prison School is a mature animation capable of distracting and upsetting the audience. If we have lovely women on one side who have generous boob shots, then the sexy girls of the Student Council on the other side know how to damage the glory of a man. The audience does not know exactly whether they should laugh at or cherish the boys when they are being punished most impeccably.
10. Mushishi
11. Samurai X
If you like good old samurai films, you can take a shot of this anime, but watch it carefully, you are hooked. The plot was founded by Hitokiri Battosais during the Meiji Era in Japan. A swordsman who changed Himura Kenshin’s name: running to defend the men around Japan. In Japan, when samurai, ronin, and ninjas were there, she is well recognized for her prominence. While the best description for Rurouni Kenshin is the trip for the revenge of Kenshin, Trust and Deception give us an insight into the tragedy of his life. In his time, we see Kenshin, along with Tomoe, learn of the milder parts of life he gave up to join the revolution. Seeing Kenshin struggling to maintain his dignity, recognizing the essence of his love and of his beloved and returning to his personal hell straight away is pitiful, resonating with every spectator’s experiences of joy and loss.
12. No Game No Life
Sora and Shiro, the two siblings, knew only the gaming world for life. They use their superintelligence to conquer the world of online games under the so-called Zero. The god of another universe wants a test, which leads to his domain, in which all conflicts are not resolved by violence, but by games. And unexpectedly the greatest game ever has been discovered by Sora and Shiro. The anime triggering the term ‘No Anime No Life’ is no game of No Life. It gave the relatively recent Game Anime genre a wide follow-up. Can fans like the way in which our leading characters put intellectual rather than brutality to their enemies? After all, the daily Jesus-Kun Game Anime is a dazzling breath of fresh air where a single man defied it all in his way.
13. Cowboy Beebop
Cowboy Bebop is a mixture of different genres including sci-fi, neo-noir, and space-western, which is not connected to any specific genre and is better described as one which is just a fan of any of these genres or as a classic Anime enthusiast in general. The voice performing and writing was the next step and was one of the best in the period. Steven Blum has given a lifetime performance like Spike. It’s headed by Shinichiro Watanabe and is one of the best anime ever. This list includes 13 of the best shows that can make you sit back and grin until your cheeks hurt, and let your heart melt in your chest like a marshmallow.
Best Kawaii And Cute Anime Serie
- The Pet Girl of Sakurasou
Sorata is expected to take charge of Mashiro, a boy with a capable creative ability who is unable to execute the simplest daily tasks. Their encounters are as surreal as comedy, and their ambitions are unique to the genre. What sets Sakurasu’s Pet Girl apart from other names is how the other characters who are not the main pair are treated. In a way, they are both misfits with their own hopes and goals, and the crowd is motivated to cheer on all of them. The conflicts and partnerships they have with Sorata are brilliantly treated and interconnected. There’s a lot more going on in this film than just a friendship, which is really well done. Sakura’s Pet Girl is a perfect anime for everybody, not just sensual fans.
- K-On!

- Cardcaptor Sakura
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF1R6ReGdzQ
Sakura is your typical schoolgirl who’s still full of life, gets bullied a lot by her big brother, has a caring father, a deceased mum, has a best friend with a strange obsession, and has a crush on someone who’s older than her. One day, she came across a book she saw in her dream, and when she opened it, the cards were enchanted, and Sakura inadvertently spread them all over the world. Keroberos stood before Sakura and told her that he was the protector of the Clow Cards, the magical cards of great strength, that Sakura had published. What are they going to do? Oh, Keroberos has called Sakura Cardcaptor, and it’s up to them to locate and recover the Clow Cards before they bring destruction to the world! For many older anime fans, Cardcaptor Sakura has a special spot in their hearts as maybe the very first anime they’ve ever seen. To others, Cardcaptor Sakura has led them on a variety of wonderful journeys with Sakura in her attempt to retake the lost Clow Cards
- Bunny Drop
Bunny Drop is a far more emotional Anime than the other on this page. It’s not the usual kind of dumb, messing around, kawaii Anime, but it’s always as adorable and sweet as hell. This is the story of a thirty-year-old single man named Daikichi Kawachi, who, at the funeral of his grandparents, learned of the presence of an illegitimate child his grandparents had. Knowing the cruel plans of his family to send her to an orphanage, Daikichi agrees to foster this six-year-old girl named Rin. Rin is a gorgeous little girl (similar to Umaru-chan) who can captivate you and take over your heart. She’s a doll, encouraging poor Daikichi to be a good dad. And Daikichi himself is not going to fall behind. He proves to have a golden spirit, knowing from scratch how to be a father figure and a good influence on Rin’s life.
- My Two-Faced Little Sister
Eat, sleep, play, repeat! That’s what Umaru Doma is doing every day after training. She’s perfect, bright, popular, and polished as a student. What nobody knows is that at home, she’s just the contrary. After practice, she wears her hamster hoodie cloak and makes it into a little spoiled and lazy brat. She does nothing at home except enjoy potato chips, drink soda, and play video games. Of course, when she doesn’t do all of these things, she probably bugs her brother and throws a tantrum so that he runs out to buy her a new manga book. That’s pretty much what the show is all about. It’s pretty easy and it’s pretty cute. You’re just going to fall in love with Umaru-chan and her playful view of life. This is the funniest kawaii anime I’ve ever seen and my personal favorite on the list. So go ahead and do it if you haven’t already done so.
- Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions
Chunibyo, also known as a second-year syndrome, is a disorder in which teens feel, often after going to high school, that they hold magical abilities or think that they belong to a mystical world that does not exist at all. Yuuta Togashi was once a Chunibyo, and he knows what it feels like to be mocked all the time because of his illness. Yet somehow he manages to mature and even decides to attend a new school in the expectation that he can get a fresh start. But when he comes into another Chunibyo named Rikka Takanashi at his new school, he’s trying to help her out as he knows what she’s going through. But this, along with Rikka, takes him back to a lot of humiliating circumstances. ‘Love, Chunibyo, and Other Dreams’ is a wonderful anime that beautifully combines fantasy, science fiction, and romance.
- Konohana Kitan
Yuzu, a young fox girl, appears in a quiet, friendly town with people and animal spirits alike. Supported by her guardian Bikuni-Sama, Yuzu goes up to a beautiful hot spring inn called Konohanatei to serve as a new attendant. At Konohanatei, Yuzu will be friends with other fox girls as they welcome and serve visitors — whether human spirits, animal spirits, or even gods — and help them heal their exhausted bodies and rejuvenate their souls with the refreshing hot water and soothing environment of the Konohanatei Inn. It’s just a cute-girls-doing-cute-things episode, except this time with a supernatural twist involving Japanese folklore-based creatures, it has a more intense feel compared to the happy-go-lucky shows we’ve described. Konohana Kitan undoubtedly has a lot of kawaii moments around Yuzu being used to working at the inn, meeting new people with a story to share, and engaging with the rest of the fox girls at the inn.
- lucky☆star
Lucky BirStar is a slice-of-life show about four cute high school girls in their daily lives. Konata is a resident otaku, Kagami is the responsible big sister and resident tsundere, Tsukasa is the sweetest little sister in the world, and Miyuki is a smart, well-mannered, big-breasted girl. A Kyoto Animation production, Lucky Star, is another slice of a life show about a group of girls going through their everyday lives. The distinction here is that Lucky Star is all about otaku culture with 4th wall-breaking jokes relating to other animes (most prominently KyoAni’s Haruhi no Suzumiya no Yuutsu), gaming, and the usual life of anime fanatics in Japan. Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki take on common tropes such as the female gamer/otaku, the resident tsundere who, for some reason, could not get a boyfriend despite her pretty looks, the meek and clumsy little sister, and the classy, but incompetent, rich girl. Lucky Star does not stand the test of time and pop culture comparisons may become out of date.
- His and Her Circumstances
Also known as Kare Kano, tell the love story of two seemingly perfect students who are actually extraordinarily defective individuals. Yukino Miyazawa thrives on affirmation and secretly believes himself to be the queen of ego. She meets the model student Soichiro Arima, who begins to take care of her and is determined to set him down immediately. Arima learns her lies, extorts her, exposes a different side of herself. They grow relationships and eventually romance. Together they grow to feel more comfortable with their true selves and to know who they are, at least with each other. The personalities of the offbeat, the two-faced main characters, and the special way in which they deal with their problems, differentiate His and Her circumstances from other shoujo romances. The romance in this anime is also credible and real. As a hint, the anime comes to an abrupt end, and you’re going to have to turn to the Manga to continue the plot.
- School Babysitters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aYAWSg7ruQ
Ryuuichi ‘s parents died in a horrific plane accident, leaving him alone to take care of his baby brother Kotarou. But one day, Ryuuichi received an invitation from an elite academy chairwoman to be their guardian. There is a condition, however — Ryuuichi must make a stay by being a babysitter for the school faculty’s children. It’s kind of a cheap trick to mention an anime about cute babies in a mention of kawaii things like you’re keeping your baby sibling to convince a girl at school that you’re an attractive and gentle person, but Gakuen Babysitters is … um … actually that. Again, the list is mostly comprised of shows with girls-only casts … * ahem * It’s not because we’re downplaying the anime and Gakuen Babysitters haven’t painted these babies as naive angels because there are really funny moments when Ryuuichi has to take care of his baby brother while trying to deal with these little hell spawns from the school’s faculty.
- Slow Start
The story revolves around Ichinose Hana, a shy girl who’s about to start her new life in high school. There she meets new people and new adventures, and maybe her new life will actually repair her introverted disposition. Slow Start is comparable to other life shows featuring an all-girl cast. Argue what you like, but these kinds of shows happen because Japan loves cute stuff and there’s nothing more adorable than seeing a group of girls does worldly daily things while doing something random like one of the girls is attracted to older women, particularly if they’re a teacher. Slow Start has the usual life quirks, but with a few yuri parts like the above-mentioned girl who is drawn to her teacher, so the anime can be watched for either the adorable girls who are harassing the student-teacher. Oh, and the quality of the animation is so good!
- Yuri on Ice
One of the most acclaimed anime series of any genre in the last few years, Yuri On Ice focuses on a much-maligned subject — competition skating — and uses it to create a rich and resonant story of mentorship, romance, and discipline. As Yuri Katsuki, a young Japanese figure skater suffers the worst loss of his career, he returns to his hometown, wondering if he will ever compete again. That changes when his idol, Russian skater Victor Nikiforov, takes an interest in him and offers to take him to the top. The relationship between the two men was presented with amazing narrative delicacy. Don’t make a mistake: this is the story of two men who fell in love with the sport as the means of their friendship. Skating is the way characters interact, convey their feelings, and deal with the world. It’s quite a feat.
- Lovely★Complex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tFmjKIIQ9w
I’ll say cute and good if I could describe the Beautiful Complex in two words! After all, it’s inside the sign. It’s an adorable and super cute romantic love story for comedy. Atsushi Otani, a high school boy, is a very small one, and Riza Koizumi, a young girl, is very good. In reality, their characteristics may not be a matter of their own, but they seem to stand out as a natural comedy couple as the opposite of each other in the same class. Otani and Risa are both fighting and moaning over their own illusions, being the opposites of each other. Interestingly, however, they have some features that only the two of them share. So this is a very sweet start, very cute, very funny, and, most of all, very cute.
