Chicago Fire is getting ready for its 13th season, and Firehouse 51 is set to face more intense challenges.

The last season was tough for the team, especially with the departure of long-time members like Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), and Wallace Boden (Eammon Walker).

However, the team cannot afford to dwell on their losses because they have critical rescue missions ahead.

The upcoming season promises thrilling rescue operations, heated drama, and relationship hurdles that will keep the firefighters of Firehouse 51 on their toes. Season 13 premieres on Wednesday, September 25, at 9/8c on NBC. Let’s take a closer look at the returning cast and characters.

Taylor Kinney as Lieutenant Kelly Severide

Taylor Kinney plays Lieutenant Kelly Severide, the leader of Rescue Squad 3’s second shift. Kelly was once known as a ladies’ man, but over time, he has become more settled in his personal life. He followed in his father’s footsteps, who also worked as a firefighter.

Kelly is not only great at fighting fires but can also handle himself in physical confrontations. Besides Chicago Fire, Kinney has appeared in films like Zero Dark Thirty and The Other Woman, and on TV shows such as Shameless.

David Eigenberg as Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann

David Eigenberg stars as Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann, a seasoned firefighter and officer for Engine 51. Alongside his firefighting duties, Herrmann co-owns a bar with Mouch.

He is a devoted family man and extends that care to his colleagues at the firehouse. Eigenberg is well known for his role as Steve Brady in Sex and the City and its revival series And Just Like That….

Joe Miñoso as Firefighter Joe Cruz

Joe Miñoso plays Joe Cruz, a firefighter on Squad 3 who used to drive Truck 81. Growing up in a tough neighborhood, Joe has faced personal challenges, especially with his brother, who ended up in legal trouble. Miñoso is also involved in theater in addition to his work on television.

Christian Stolte as Firefighter Randall “Mouch” McHolland

Christian Stolte stars as Randall “Mouch” McHolland, a veteran firefighter who also serves as a union representative. He currently drives Truck 81 at Firehouse 51 and takes on the role of mediator, handling issues for the team and offering guidance to his colleagues. Stolte is also known for his role in Prison Break and the movie Public Enemies.

Miranda Rae Mayo as Lieutenant Stella Kidd

Miranda Rae Mayo plays Lieutenant Stella Kidd, the officer in charge of Truck 81 at Firehouse 51. Stella made a big impression when she joined the team, especially with her strong firefighting skills. Over time, she has proven herself to be a valuable addition to the firehouse. Mayo has also appeared in True Detective and The Affair.

Daniel Kyri as Firefighter Darren Ritter

Daniel Kyri portrays Darren Ritter, a firefighter who was inspired to join the profession by his uncle. Although Darren’s journey has had its challenges, he found a place at Firehouse 51 after freezing up on his initial assignment.

He’s openly gay and maintains strong bonds with his colleagues, particularly with Blake Gallo. Kyri has also played Hamlet in theater and appeared in the horror film Night’s End.

Hanako Greensmith as Paramedic in Charge Violet Mikami

Hanako Greensmith plays Violet Mikami, a paramedic in charge at Ambulance 61. Violet is known for her competitive nature, particularly when it comes to her colleague Blake Gallo. Though they initially clashed, the tension between them eventually led to a romantic connection. Greensmith has also appeared in FBI and Chicago Med.

Jake Lockett as Firefighter Sam Carver

Jake Lockett stars as Sam Carver, a firefighter who works under Truck 81. Carver has a rebellious streak, sometimes bending the rules, but he is a dedicated and skilled firefighter. Lockett’s other TV credits include NCIS: LA and Seal Team, and he made his directorial debut with the short film A Rush of Peace.

Jocelyn Hudson as Paramedic Lyla Novak

Jocelyn Hudson plays Lyla Novak, a paramedic recently transferred to Ambulance 61. Although she has faced personal challenges in the past, including an affair with her instructor, Lyla is determined to make a fresh start at Firehouse 51. Hudson has also appeared in films like Pixels and The Strain.

Dermot Mulroney as Battalion Chief Dom Pascal

Dermot Mulroney stars as Dom Pascal, the new Battalion Chief at Firehouse 15. Dom brings a different leadership style to the firehouse, often making tough decisions with a smile. However, his personal life is less successful, as he has been estranged from his wife for some time. Mulroney is a seasoned actor, with appearances in over 70 films.

Randy Flagler as Firefighter Harold Capp

Randy Flagler plays Harold Capp, a firefighter who works on Rescue Squad 3. Last season, Capp was injured while trying to help someone and got electrocuted, but his fellow firefighters managed to save him. Flagler has also appeared in Men of Honor and The Double.

Anthony Ferraris as Firefighter Tony Ferraris

Anthony Ferraris portrays Tony Ferraris, a firefighter and real-life member of the Chicago Fire Department. Unlike the other actors, Ferraris was already a firefighter when he joined the show, initially as an extra. His character often deals with critical rescue missions, and Ferraris has appeared in Chicago Med and Chicago P.D..

Michael Bradway as Firefighter Jack Damon

Michael Bradway plays Jack Damon, a firefighter who joined the team in Season 12 as a replacement for Derrick Gibson. Jack has wealth of experience makes him a strong asset to Truck 81. Bradway also appeared in Marked Men.

KaDee Strickland as Monica Pascal

KaDee Strickland stars as Monica Pascal, the estranged wife of Battalion Chief Dom Pascal. Strickland is known for her roles in Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and The Grudge.

Robyn Coffin as Cindy Herrmann

Robyn Coffin plays Cindy Herrmann, the supportive wife of Christopher Herrmann. Cindy has faced personal struggles, including a battle with lung cancer last season.

In Season 12, she celebrates a milestone in her recovery by changing her appearance. Coffin has also acted in Every 21 Seconds and The Life and Death of an Unhappily Married Man.

Tim Hopper as Captain Tom Van Meter

Tim Hopper portrays Tom Van Meter, an arson investigator and commander with the Chicago Fire Department. Hopper is an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, appearing in shows like Law & Order.

In the last season, Sharon Goodwin rekindled her dating life at work, Dr. Dean Archer recovered from a kidney transplant donated by his son, and Maggie Lockwood moved forward after her divorce, finding love with a helicopter pilot.

Dr. Hannah Asher’s romance with Mitch Ripley heated up, while Ripley’s hatred for Dr. Charles grew stronger.

Season 10 is set to premiere on Wednesday, September 25, at 8/7c on NBC. While we wait for the new season, let’s look at the familiar faces returning to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles

Oliver Platt returns as Dr. Daniel Charles, an experienced epidemiologist. Over the years, Daniel has faced personal issues, especially regarding his mental health. He has been married four times, each marriage adding complications to his life.

Daniel also struggles with depression, partly due to his father’s drug addiction. To cope, he uses antidepressants but has had moments where he overdosed to numb his feelings. At work, he often helps patients through emotional difficulties.

Platt is well-known for his roles in The West Wing, Huff, and Nip/Tuck. He also stars as Uncle Jimmy in the Emmy-winning series The Bear.

S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin

S. Epatha Merkerson plays Sharon Goodwin, the Executive Director of Patient and Medical Services at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Sharon started her career as a nurse in the Emergency Department, giving her valuable experience. She’s a stickler for rules and always stands up for her team.

However, she’s not afraid to challenge colleagues over controversial medical decisions. Last season, she reunited with her ex-husband Bert when their grandson was admitted to the hospital after an accident.

Merkerson is also famous for playing NYPD Lieutenant Anita Van Buren in Law & Order and appeared in Pee-wee’s Playhouse as Reba the Mail Lady.

Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Lockwood

Marlyne Barrett returns as Maggie Lockwood, a dedicated charge nurse in the Emergency Department. Maggie has always been familiar with the medical world, thanks to her midwife mother. However, her life changed when she unexpectedly became pregnant at 16.

At work, Maggie is known for her no-nonsense attitude and commitment to her team. Last season, she helped secure an important blood test for a patient whose insurance wouldn’t cover it.

Barrett also played recurring roles as Nerese Campbell in The Wire and Felicia Marquand in Damages.

Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer

Steven Weber plays Dr. Dean Archer, the head of the Emergency Department. Dean’s time in the Navy left him with severe PTSD, which continues to affect his professional life.

Despite his mental health struggles, he refuses to seek help. In Season 6, this became a bigger problem, but Dean still pushed through. Last season, he handled some unusual cases, including a genetic heart condition thought to be a “family curse.”

Weber is also known for his roles in Wings, All Dogs Go to Heaven, iZombie, and NCIS: New Orleans.

Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher

Jessy Schram returns as Dr. Hannah Asher, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist who has dealt with substance abuse issues. Hannah hid her heroin addiction for a long time, but her colleague Will Halstead eventually intervened, getting her into rehab.

After rehab, Hannah went through ups and downs, even returning to rehab at one point. Last season, she treated patients who struggled with addiction, which resonated with her own experiences.

Schram has appeared in Veronica Mars, Falling Skies, and Once Upon a Time.

Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitch Ripley

Luke Mitchell stars as Dr. Mitchell “Mitch” Ripley, an attending physician in the Emergency Department. Mitch had a rough upbringing and was diagnosed with an impulse control disorder.

After a troubled childhood, Mitch grew resentful of the psychiatric treatments he received, especially those involving restraints. His relationship with Dr. Daniel Charles remains strained, and last season, he made it clear that he still harbored resentment toward his former doctor.

Mitchell is known for his roles in The Tomorrow People, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Blindspot.

Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost

Darren Barnet portrays Dr. John Frost, the new pediatrician at the center. John enjoys working with children and knows how to connect with them emotionally. He explains medical conditions to his young patients in a way that doesn’t frighten them.

Barnet is best known for playing Paxton Hall-Yoshida in Never Have I Ever and recently appeared in Gran Turismo and Anyone But You.

Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox

Sarah Ramos stars as Dr. Caitilin Lenox, a new doctor at the medical center. Not much is known about Caitlin’s character yet, but she’s expected to clash with her colleagues, especially Sharon.

Ramos previously appeared in American Dreams and Parenthood.

Conor Perkins as Dr. Zach Hudgins

Conor Perkins plays Dr. Zach Hudgins, a first-year resident in Emergency Medicine. Zach helped Dr. Hannah Asher treat a patient last season, though the patient left the hospital unexpectedly.

Perkins has a theater background, having attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He also co-hosts a bi-weekly podcast called Poor Unfortunate Podcast.

Henderson Wade as Dr. Loren Johnson

Henderson Wade stars as Dr. Loren Johnson, a general surgeon and medical helicopter pilot.

His military background, likely in the Air Force, provides him with invaluable skills, especially when airlifting patients from rural areas to the hospital.

Wade has appeared in Extant, NCIS, and It Had to Be You.

Season 10 of Chicago Med promises plenty of emotional and dramatic moments. With new challenges and returning characters, the series will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
