Filled with tears, accusations, and revelations, The Bachelorette Season 21 finale was dramatic as ever! The biggest surprise was when Jenn Tran revealed that she and the season winner, Devin Strader, had broken up shortly after filming ended.
This shocked viewers because Jenn and Devin seemed to have a strong connection from the beginning. But this doesn’t mean Strader was the right man for Jenn. Other contestants on the show often argued with Strader, which made some people wonder if they were right to question his intentions from the start.
Strader managed to stay in Jenn’s good graces by acting well-behaved in front of her, always saying and doing the right things, making her think he was full of green flags.
The other contestants often saw Strader’s rude outbursts and noticed how he could twist situations to make himself look good and others look bad. Nguyen and McKinney, a former season villain, also strongly disliked Strader. Nguyen had a major argument with Strader when he pulled Jenn away during a cocktail night, breaking a promise to let others go first.
Nguyen felt Strader was being disrespectful. McKinney and Nguyen criticized Strader, calling him a “bully” and an “ankle-biting dog” for his aggressive moves to win Jenn over.
By the end of the season, Erb, McKinney, and Nguyen felt vindicated as Strader turned out to be the kind of guy they suspected. Erb and McKinney even posted their thoughts on social media, reflecting on Strader’s behavior. Strader was always at the center of the drama, but he managed to manipulate situations and avoid blame in Jenn’s eyes.
What was interesting about Strader’s approach was how many of his actions were not clear-cut. When he felt threatened by Jenn’s other connections or lost his advantage, he often threatened to leave the show.
For example, when Jenn’s ex, Matt Rossi, unexpectedly showed up, Strader lost his temper. He told Grant Ellis at a cocktail party in Auckland that if Jenn allowed Rossi to stay, he would leave the show.
Strader even told the other men, “If Jenn walks in here with this guy, this rose on my chest doesn’t mean anything to me.” While some saw this as Strader being deeply in love, his breakup after the show made it all seem like an act.
Strader also considered leaving after the Fantasy Suites because he was upset Jenn didn’t immediately say “I love you” and was still finding connections with other contestants. This showed his immaturity and lack of understanding of the show’s nature, indicating he wasn’t ready for a serious commitment like marriage. Instead of honest communication, he wanted to quit at the first sign of trouble.
From love-bombing to manipulation, Strader used many tricks to win Jenn over. What’s amusing is that Strader didn’t seem like a player at first glance. However, closer observation revealed a pattern of red flags, leading fans to label him the worst winner ever, according to Monsters and Critics.
Strader was always a strong contender, but his conversations with Jenn grew increasingly fake. He said all the right things a girl might want to hear, but it was clear he was just good with words because of how forceful his approach was. He shared his feelings too openly and too soon.

In contrast, runner-up Marcus Shoberg seemed more genuine, wanting to take his time before making big statements. Even The Bachelorette alum Rachel Recchia compared Strader to her ex, Tino Franco. On the July 23, 2024 episode of The Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast, Recchia said Strader gave her the “ick” with his overconfidence and winner mindset.
She didn’t think any of the men stood out much, but she made it clear she didn’t trust Strader, remarking, “I think there’s something about Devin that really throws up red flags for me because he reminds me a lot of Tino.”
Of course, Devin Strader ended things with Jenn Tran in a typical playboy manner—over the phone after ghosting her for long periods. On After the Final Rose, Jenn shared that Strader distanced himself after filming ended. After leaving Hawaii engaged, Jenn dealt with Strader’s inconsistent communication and unwillingness to work on their relationship, leaving her confused.
Strader, who once loved-bombed Jenn, suddenly claimed he no longer loved her. What made it worse was that Strader followed Maria Georgas from the last season of The Bachelor on Instagram soon after their breakup, which Jenn found disrespectful, as she told PEOPLE. Georgas was almost chosen as The Bachelorette Season 21 lead before Jenn got the role.
Strader gave a brief apology, saying he had doubts about their engagement and was “regretfully late” in expressing them. Jenn also noted that it didn’t seem like Strader was affected by the breakup, as he was seen partying with contestant Jeremy Simon shortly after.

While the first season has been very successful for Netflix, the future of The Watcher is still uncertain. It doesn’t look promising right now because Naomi Watts, who stars in the series, has not heard any news about the planned second season.
The Watcher was initially made as a limited series, but Netflix quickly renewed it for Season 2 just a month after its release. Sadly, almost two years later, there is still no progress on the second season.
During the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her new movie The Friend, Watts—who played Nora Brannock in the series—told Entertainment Weekly that she is still waiting for news about Season 2. She said:
“I don’t have one, if there is one. I wish I could. It was so fun, right? I don’t have an update, I’m afraid.”
What Is the Scary True Story Behind Netflix’s The Watcher?
Ryan Murphy, who is also known for creating shows like Glee, 9-1-1, Scream Queens, Pose, The Politician, and Hollywood, is famous for his darker TV shows.
