Gene Simmons has come out plain about why Ace Frehley chose to leave KISS. According to Simmons, the primary reasons for Ace Frehley’s leaving the band were due to creative differences as well as a few personal issues. Frehley had his own vision for the band’s musical direction. These differences in artistic direction caused tension within the group.
Still, to add, Frehley had personal issues during his time with KISS, which included drug problems, which also contributed to him leaving the band. “Ace’s biggest problems were the monkey on his back, drugs, and alcohol,” Simmons says. “At that point, he was gone. Too many drugs and alcohol have driven Ace to the point of no return. The idea that Ace left KISS just for Elder is not true. ”
Gene Simmons once admitted that he wanted to meet Ace Frehley during his ongoing farewell tour, but Frehley was difficult to work with.
“I threw a question on Ace and Peter, ‘Please come on tour,’ and we will give you your own room and everything. He stated that Frehley did not want to make this album, but it was far from KISS’ main goal. Frehley was not happy with KISS releasing a concept album and was not happy with its energetic and iconic main sound. Simmons acknowledged that Frehley’s feelings were valid.

“To Ace’s credit, he always said it wasn’t a good idea to make a record like ‘Music from the Elder,’” he admitted. “He continued saying, ‘Look, we do not want to do this.’ He said, ‘We should stay a rock band.’ In retrospect, Ace was exactly right.”
The bassist then unveiled Ace Frehley’s problems and explained why Ace Frehley left KISS. Everyone said Ace Frehley left KISS because of the timing of their album Music From the Elder, but Simmons said Frehley’s departure from KISS had to do with his struggles with alcohol and drugs.

Initially, fifteen million dollars, which by today’s standards wouldn’t seem like as much as it was then until, of course, adjusted for inflation. Today, his net worth is listed at thirty-five million. However, much of his net worth today came from the reunion tour in which he participated.
Ace spent a lot of his money from being in the band Kiss very fast. He used a bigger part of it on a type of powder that you put in your nose. Forbes, a company that looks at how much money people have, said he had ten million dollars after the reunion. But before that, he only had one million.
So, he went from having about one million dollars to about ten million, and now he is worth around thirty-five million. Most of this money comes from the payments he gets because of the renewed interest in KISS, all thanks to the reunions he was part of. It is almost funny, and I will explain why later. If he had never left KISS, either time, he might be worth around two hundred million dollars today.
How Costly Was Ace to the Band?
I do know that when he officially resigned as a member of Kiss, the band had entered into a ten-million-dollar contract (again, adjusting for inflation, that was a significant amount of money back then). Many successful stars today would laugh at a ten-million-dollar deal.

According to the terms of the contract, “Kiss” was defined as the members currently in the band at the time of the contract. Therefore, Kiss was technically unable to enforce the contract and declared it invalid. Basically, Ace cost the band easily $10 million.
However, the man had to do what he had to do personally, artistically, professionally, and health-wise.
At the time of his departure, the band’s popularity was waning, and there were serious doubts regarding the band’s future at that point. But think about this: let us reason it this way: you lost out on a 1/4th chunk of a ten million dollar bonus at work because a co-worker chose to resign. Would you be upset?
Yes, we think he should have stayed in the band, and I think they would have been much better for it. But unfortunately, We shouldn’t think that was his decision. Gene and Paul and all the other money-hungry control freaks cannot belong to a “band.” Musically, Ace was by far the most talented member, and Spaceman was incredibly cool.
