FULL PAGE SUMMARY ON PAGE 2
- Chapter 1,143: “The God’s Knights”.
- Special reader request for Color Spread in the cover: “Straw Hat Pirates car chase”. Luffy and the crew are riding on flying fishes in a circuit-pool (except Jinbe, he’s swimming in the water). They are participating in a race and all of them wear leather suits like riders. We can read the sentence “Speed is the weapon” in a rubber ring.
- Chapter starts at “Walrus School”. Saul is trying to stop sleeping kids that are following Gunka’s arrow. He tries to grab the arrow but can’t since it is wrapped in invisible thorny vines, making Saul hurts his hands.
Saul: “Now, let us return to the scho… Uwahh, it hurts!!”
Chopper: “What’s wrong Saul?”
Robin: “What happened? You were stabbed by something!!”
- The giants of the village sent the fire fighter squad to handle the fire, but their Sval is destroyed in the forest by the giant undead from kid’s imagination: Jarul, Dorry, Kashi, and giants in the village are in shock seeing the skeleton monsters. We see too Nami, Usopp, Franky, Jinbe… reacting to the news about school and fire.
- Cut to the forest, we see that 3 “God’s Knights” are having a meal at a luxurious table while they are observing chaos at “Walrus School”.
Sommers: “Gihahaha! Did you see that!? The shocking face that giant made when he was pierced by the thorn!!! “Every loved one has their thorns”!! Isn’t that right!?”
Gunka: “Don’t ask me.”
Sommers: “What a critical event to make your emotions grow, “love” is “passion”!! The passion that will make you hug the thorns as it becomes more visible the closer you are!! You just have to do that to become worthy of the name “parent”!! Isn’t that pattern!! The parents will hold their child close regardless of the thorns!!! And the kids will witness their own parents enduring in order to keep them close!!! Watching their parents die up close as they let out their own screams!!!”
- As Sommers talks, we see that some vines appear in his right arm. Then we discover in a presentation box that Sommers has the power of “Iba Iba no Mi” fruit (from “Ibara” that means “thorny flower”). Sommers is a “Dream human”.
- Gunka is the one pointing the kids’ way with her arrow. She’s making them walk the main road through the village, making giants feel powerless to stop them.
- Killingham notices that they don’t have enough salt, so he mentions it to Sommers. A cloud appears over Sommers head when he imagines the salt. Then Killingham uses his power to put Sommers to sleep and then he pulls the salt out of Sommers’ dream cloud.
- In another presentation box we discover that Killingham has the power of “Yuu Ryu no Mi, Mythical type, Model Kirin”. Killingham is a “dream manifesting human”.
Killingham: “Ohh, “Asparck Rock Salt” as expected of a gourmet connoisseur. You can get up now.”
Sommers: “Wow!! Regarding the “MMA” you manifested from the brats’ dreams…”
(*This chapter doesn’t explain what initials “MMA” means, but in Japanese it’s read as “Muuma”.)
Killingham: “Of course they will be made to be running along with the kids… Hey this salt is the best!!”
Gunka: “Give me some as well…”
- Gunka becomes like a kid when she tastes Killingham food and finds it tasty (but we can’t see her face, she eats with the bandage on top). Killingham explains that tastes good but provides no energy because it comes from “dreams”.
- Sommers complain that this game will be too easy to clear since they can easily transport the kids to the next big rate. Gunka says something unexpected will happen since “Rouku Straw Hat” is also on Elbahp.
- God’s Knights notice the kids are on “Branch number 8” and they are heading toward fire. But Sommers say that if this group cannot clear the game, they will just have the next group try instead.
- Cut to the “Undendorf” where Loki tries to threaten to kill everyone. In an AMAZING double page Luffy uses a new technique called “Use Fusen” (Arm Balloon = 腕風船) that’s similar to “Hone Fusen” (Bone Balloon) but Luffy puts the air into his arm. Then Luffy hits Loki’s body with a very light punch and Loki falls down unconscious.
- Zoro says Loki is on a verge of death. He thinks Loki was just bluffing to get out of “Kairouseki” cuff and then he planned to run somewhere and fails, dying there instead.
- Luffy begs the giants to help Loki, he says he doesn’t want to watch and let someone die, no matter what type of person. Gerd and other giants agrees to help, so Gerd treats Loki’s wounds.
- Then we see flashback about Loki, Hajrudin, and Harald. First, there’s panel of Elbahp from 63 years ago. We see kid Loki and Hajrudin. Harald’s face is shaded but he still has the 2 horns in that moment. Hajrudin looks similar to when we saw him in Big Mom’s flashback. Loki was already taller than Hajrudin at that time and his eyes were covered with bandages too.
Harald: “You both… are my precious sons. I wish that you two will never! Elbahp! together hand in hands as my heirs.”
- Then we see Loki was able to defeat Hajrudin easily even when they were children. Loki used a spike kanabo as a weapon when he was a kid (it looks like Kaidou’s kanabo).
Loki: “Are you kidding?! No way I’m accepting a shortie weakling like you as my big bro!! Remember, you are a “bastard”!! Not a real son of father’s!! Hajrudin!! Your mother came from a tainted line!!”
- Back to the present in last page of the chapter. Hajrudin becomes furious and picks up an axe ready to kill Loki. Road and Stansen stop him as best they can.
Stansen: “Don’t get ahead of yourself Hajrudin!!”
Hajrudin: “I have never once forgiven this guy…!! He spoke ill of my mother and slayed my father!!”
Loki: “Go ahead and do it then, you pathetic berserker…”
- Despite Hajrudin’s fury, Loki speaks to him calmly. Hajrudin is in shock when he hears Loki’s words…
Loki: “If you have time to be caught up in your personal drama, look at the whole “forest”…!! Don’t tell me even you can’t see that… humans’ to kill father.”
End of the chapter. NO break next week.
AMC has confirmed that Dark Winds will return for a fourth season, even before the third season’s release on March 9. This renewal proves that the creators have a strong belief in the story they are telling.
Dark Winds, based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novel series, was created by Graham Roland and is executive-produced by George R.R. Martin. The show has gained a dedicated audience and continues to develop major storylines introduced in the first season.
Joe Leaphorn (played by Zahn McClarnon) is still dealing with the devastating loss of his son, Joe Jr. New details about his son’s death lead him on a difficult personal journey. The second season follows the events of People of Darkness, a 1980 novel by Hillerman. Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), now working as a private investigator, crosses paths with Leaphorn once again as they become involved in a dangerous case.
Leaphorn and Chee Face New Dangers in Season 2
Season 2 starts with a tense moment. Leaphorn and Bernadette (Jessica Matten) arrive at a trailer in the middle of the desert. Before they can investigate, they are trapped inside as gunfire erupts from Colton Wolf (Nicholas Logan), a deadly new antagonist. This dramatic scene does not continue until Episode 4, “The March,” but it is an important turning point in the season.
The story begins when Emerson Charley, a terminally ill man, dies in a car explosion outside the hospital where Joe’s wife, Emma (Deanna Allison), works. Leaphorn quickly determines that this was not an accident. Someone deliberately killed Emerson. Meanwhile, Jim Chee takes on a new case.
His client, Rosemary Vines (Jeri Ryan), hires him to find a stolen box belonging to her wealthy husband, B. J. Vines (John Diehl). Rosemary suspects that a secretive group called the People of Darkness stole the box. She believes Emerson’s son, Tomas Charley (Robert I. Mesa), is responsible.
As Leaphorn and Chee investigate, they track down Tomas. Chee finds a map that reveals where Tomas hid the stolen box. When they reach the location, a gunman ambushes them. During the shootout, Chee is gravely wounded. Leaphorn makes a shocking discovery—inside the box is his dead son’s buckle.
This piece of evidence suggests a possible link between the gunman and Joe Jr.’s death. Leaphorn also finds a report about the Drumco oil well, submitted by Emerson’s late brother, Dylan Charley.
The Truth About Colton Wolf
The mysterious gunman is revealed to be Colton Wolf. To erase any witnesses, Wolf kills Tomas and attempts to kill Tomas’s young son, Benny (Jet James Grant). He even attacks Chee at the hospital but manages to escape. Leaphorn learns that Wolf was responsible for the Drumco oil well explosion. A large manhunt follows, leading Leaphorn and Bernadette to Wolf’s hideout.
A chase ensues, and Wolf jumps into a canyon. Leaphorn follows, and they both suffer serious injuries. Bernadette rescues Leaphorn, while the police take Wolf into custody. Authorities confirm that Wolf caused the oil well explosion and killed several people.
Wolf had a troubled childhood. His mother killed his father and sister. It is suggested that Wolf killed his mother, yet he still hires private investigators to search for her. Despite his crimes, Leaphorn suspects that Wolf was working for someone else.
The Mastermind Behind the Tragedy
Leaphorn questions Wolf but gets no useful answers. Later, while being transported by federal officers, Wolf overturns the vehicle and escapes. He goes straight to B. J. Vines’ house, revealing the final clue in the case. B. J. kills Wolf to erase any evidence linking them.
Leaphorn’s investigation exposes B. J.’s true intentions. Years ago, Dylan Charley submitted a false report, claiming the Drumco oil well had no uranium deposits. But B. J. knew the truth.
He hired Wolf to cause an explosion, forcing Drumco to sell the land cheaply. Six young Native American men died in the explosion, but for B. J., they were just collateral damage. With enough proof, Leaphorn has B. J. arrested.
Leaphorn’s father warns him that powerful men like B. J. can escape justice. At first, Leaphorn trusts the legal system, but when B. J. is released, he decides to act. Leaphorn kidnaps B. J., takes him to the freezing desert, and leaves him to face his fate alone. The next day, Sheriff Gordo (A Martinez) tells Leaphorn that B. J. has vanished. Authorities assume he fled after being released on bail.
What’s Next for Dark Winds in Season 3?
As Season 2 ends, the story focuses on its emotional impact. Bernadette, who applied for a job at Border Patrol, accepts the position and leaves the reservation. She realizes that Native people and white people are treated differently under the law. Before she leaves, Leaphorn gives her a metal feather made from his son’s melted buckle.

Chee finally agrees to return to the Navajo Tribal Police. Meanwhile, Emma Leaphorn allows journalist Mary Landon (Jacqueline Byers) to publish a report about the illegal sterilization of Native American women. Mary warns that this decision will have major consequences.
Sally Thunder (Elva Guerra), who has lived with Joe and Emma since Season 1, sets out on her own journey. Many new challenges and conflicts await in Season 3. The upcoming season promises intense drama and exciting new developments.
AMC’s Dark Winds has been renewed for Season 4 ahead of its Season 3 premiere on March 9. The show follows Joe Leaphorn, who uncovers shocking details about his son’s death while investigating a deadly oil well explosion.
He discovers that assassin Colton Wolf carried out the explosion under orders from businessman B. J. Vines, who sought to acquire uranium-rich land. When B. J. escapes justice, Leaphorn takes matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Bernadette joins Border Patrol, Chee returns to the Tribal Police, and Emma supports a controversial report on Native American sterilization. Season 3 promises intense drama and new revelations.
Dark Winds Season 3 premieres on AMC on March 9 and will be available to stream on AMC+ the following day.
