FULL DETAILED SUMMARY ON PAGE 2
CHAPTER TITLE: “THE THINGS WE FEAR” OR “WHAT WE’RE AFRAID OF”
COVER STORY: Ogre Child Yamato’s Golden Harvest Surrogate Pilgrimage Vol. 32 – “Daimyo of Udon – Raizo, expresses his thanks”
Raizo brings onigiri and food as thanks to Yamato. Tama is hugging Raizo.
-The chapter starts with a mini-flashback. Saul recognizes the God’s Knights and mentions that he has seen them before. He mentions that they are “immortal / invincible”
-Sommers sees Gunko. She has the Straw Hat Crew (Jinbei, Nami, Usopp and Brook) all tied up.
Sommers: “Gunko! So you’ve captured them, the Straw Hat Crew? Are you taking them with you?”
Killingham: “Stop joking around, Sommers. Are you guys trying to piss off Straw Hat Luffy? We must only accomplish our mission and head back.”
Nami: “Ugh… Saul’s in a horrible state… and Colon got kidnapped too! What the heck Jinbei, and you were with us the whole time!”
Jinbei: “You’re too loud! I’m thinking right now… What kind of ability is this…?”
-Brook seems to notice something about Gunko.
Brook: Hmm… that lady… No… there’s no way…
Gunko points a saber made of her arrows at Brook and steps on him.
Gunko: Gunko: Why don’t you make music for me your whole life? Become mine!!*
(*Gunko said “watashi no mono ni nare!” which literally means = “Become mine!” but “mono” is written in Kanji as “奴隷” = dorei = slave, so it can be translated as “Become my slave!”)
Nami: Don’t tell me, she knows of Brook’s music?!
Usopp: A Celestial Dragon is a fan of… Soul King?!
Jinbei: Looks like a big shot took a liking to you…
Sommers: Hey Gunko! Forget about it! I don’t want the trouble of getting in a fight with a Yonko too! Let’s just go and finish the job!
Brook: My deepest apologies, young lady. Ever since the day I gave my second life to Captain Straw Hat Luffy, I have pledged my loyalty to him alone.
Gunko: And what if I told you I’ll kill you if you refuse?
Brook: THEN I SHALL DIE, RATHER THAN LIVE WITHOUT HONOR!!!
-Gunko kicks Brook hard. Gunko puts her hand on her chest and it looks like she took some emotional damage, LOL. She continues to kick him.
-Sommers starts his broadcast announcement all over Elbaph. He introduces himself as a “dagger” (懐剣) from the Holy Land, one of the God’s Knights. He mentioned that 10 kids are currently being kidnapped and announced that Saul was taken down. He mentions “The game starts now.” There’s no video feature in the comms of Elbaph so Killingham asks Ange if she can name all the 10 kids that are being kidnapped to convey the validity of their threat.
-Cut to the 10 kids being kidnapped. They are now awake from their sleep. The kids are wondering where they are. Some of the kids are crying, saying they want to go home and see their parents. Colon speaks.
Colon: Don’t make a fuss! I’m here with you! Unlike you wimps, I’m a “Warrior”!
-Out of nowhere, two MMA monsters appeared, a dragon-like monster and a ghost monster. The kids are all frightened and asks Colon to save them, but Colon was also scared and screaming, LOL.
-Cut to the Giant Warrior Pirates Sval Ship. The Chief (Dorry or Brogy) commands his men to turn the ship around so they can save the kids. But the ship has a hole in the bilge and the oars are broken. They talk about the monster that they are facing.
Brogy: Dammit! What kind of mythical monster is it?!
Giant: I dunno! It’s a monster woman!
Giant: It kinda looks like my wife…
Giant: Imma hit you right now!
Giant: That one down there looks like my wife…
Dorry: Wait, these monsters were born from what the kids are “afraid of” right?
Dorry: You’re wife is Bento’s mother right?
Giant: Yeah.
Dorry: Then, assuming that Bento imagined that as what he’s “afraid of” then you get…
Dorry: “MOMMY”!!!
Monster Mom: GAHHH!!!
Giants: WHAAATTT?! THAT THING SCARES US TOO!!! (Dorry, Brogy and the Giants are making surprised faces like Enel, LOL)
Giants: GYAAHHH!!!
Giants: IT’S NO GOOD! THE MORALE HAS BEEN BROKEN!!!
-The giants are apologizing for their mistakes on the monster moms. LMAO
Giant: Sorry for always drinking while walking, darling!
Giant: Sorry for always forgetting to take out the trash, darling!
Giant: Sorry for eating the Honey Cake that’s supposed to be for the guests!
-The Sval ship of the Giant Warrior Pirates comes crashing down.
-Since there’s no king, Sommers now addresses Jarul, the elder chief. He addresses him as “Legendary Warrior – Mountain Beard Jarul”. Sommers states their objective: To make the giants as their “battle slaves”.
-Ange now names the 10 kids that are being kidnapped.
Ange: These are the names of the children who were taken:
The first one, (1) Ylva.
Ylva: WAAAAHHH!!!
Jarul: Ylva?! My great-great-granddaughter!
Ange: The next one is (2) Skaldi.
Skaldi: Is there anything that we can do at all?!
Ange: (3) Olag
Olag: It’s a dream! This is just a dream!
Oimo: Chief! That’s my grandson!
Ange: (4) Karin
Karin: I got bad luck as always…
Ange: (5) Mag
Mag: I’m exerting effort, but I can’t stop!
Ange: (6) Ronja
Ronja: I’m fine! It’ll all work out alright, somehow!
Ange: (7) Bento
Bent: I’m gonna get scolded by mommy!
Ange: (8) Johanna
Johanne: Must feel nice. You guys got parents.
Ange: (9) Bjorn
Bjorn: Can they save only me at least?
Johanna: You’re the worst, Bjorn! What did you say?!
Bjorn: So… Sorry…
Sommers: That’s 9 kids! But just now… a small warrior kid saying “I must save my friends” called (10) “Colon” appeared and now there’s 10 of them!
-Ripley, Franky, Lilith and Bonneya arrives at the wreck location of the Giant Warrior Pirates. She’s worried about her son. She’s holding Scopper Gaban in her palm.
Gaban: You heard that Ripley? My son is admirable!
Ripley: This is not the time for saying that!
-Sommers states his “Order” to the giants. He wants them to burn down the school and library, and swore their allegiance to them. If they won’t do it, they will kill off 1 kid at a time.
Sommers: Elder Jarul… Make your decision…
-Sommer ends the call.
On the final scene of the chapter:
Sommers: So annoying…
Robin comes out of hiding. Chopper says she mustn’t.
Ripley: Ya-san, Please…!
Gaban: Got it…
Gaban and Robin: We won’t let such a thing happen!!!
Anime Detour, one of Minnesota’s largest fan-run anime conventions, is facing internal chaos after a no-confidence vote removed its executive leadership. The board of Anime Twin Cities cited mismanagement, financial concerns, and failure to report disputes as the reason for the sudden removal. The motion passed 4-1, effectively stripping the executive team of their authority.
Following the vote, most of the department heads resigned. Some staff accused the board of a hostile takeover. According to FanCons.com , former Chairperson MacDonald admitted to controlling key resources and not informing the board of conflicts. These confessions fueled accusations of mismanagement and lack of transparency.
Staff Uproar and Legal Fallout

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
The conflict escalated into a legal battle, with internal documents revealing disputes over access to financial accounts and control of event planning. Staffers claim the board violated bylaws and took over without warning. “This was a coup,” one former volunteer wrote in a resignation post. The convention’s future now hangs in the balance, with fans uncertain if the next event will proceed as planned.
Many former staffers took to social media to criticize the board, saying they were pushed out after years of volunteer work. Some have alleged the new leadership lacked experience with large-scale event planning. A lawsuit has reportedly been filed, although specific details remain limited at this time.
Fan Community Reacts to the Shake-Up

Time Travel Anime
Attendees and longtime fans of Anime Detour are reacting with shock and confusion. While some support the board’s decision for accountability, others view the actions as reckless. “This feels like watching a fandom civil war,” one Reddit user commented. Posts on Discord and X (formerly Twitter) show widespread concern over ticket refunds and future programming.
Amid this controversy, the board has stated they are working to rebuild trust and restructure the organization. They’ve assured fans that Anime Detour 2025 is still scheduled, but community trust may be harder to restore. Transparency and communication are now at the center of heated discussions about how fan-run conventions should operate.
A Larger Warning for Fan-Run Events

Heartwarming Anime That Bring Pure Joy
This situation reflects a growing challenge in fan-run spaces—balancing passion with professionalism. As conventions grow in size and complexity, some argue that clearer governance and legal oversight are essential. Anime Detour’s internal rift may serve as a cautionary tale for similar events navigating volunteer burnout and unchecked authority.
Whether the lawsuit will reshape Anime Twin Cities’ operations is still unclear, but one thing is certain—the fan convention scene is paying close attention. The days of running large conventions purely on goodwill may be coming to an end.
