More details of the chapter by Redon. Chapter of 19 pages (2 color pages from Color Spread and 17 black and white normal pages).
- Chapter 1,166: “New stories”.
- Special reader request for Color Spread: “Yamato and Otama having roasted sweet potatoes with foxes and tanukis after gathering fallen leaves”. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Chopper are eating roasted sweet potatoes in a forest with Yamato, Otama and Shinobu (and some ninja foxes and tanukis).
- Chapter starts with Rocks lying on the ground (Roger and Garp already left the battlefield). Despite Roger and Garp attacks, Rocks was still alive and he was talking to himself.
Rocks: “Ahh… Didn’t work huh? Roger… Garp… run… You guys are not to die here…”
- Suddenly, Garling, Sommers and Maffey approached Rocks. Garling raised his sword and stabbed it into Rocks’ body. These were Rocks’ last words.
Rocks: “Oh almost forgot… Thank you guys… for stopping my rampage…”
- Then we can see characters like Newgate, Linlin, Kaidou or Shakky in the montage closing God Valley incident. And we can see too that God Valley island was sinking into the sea (we don’t see laser beams destroying the island or anything like that, just island sinking).

- The news of “Rocks Pirates” disbandment spread around the world. Harald stopped a giant who was plundering on human town, he punched the giant several times in rage. Harald felt guilty that his effort for peace resulting in him not helping Rocks, so he will not forgive any giant who stand against his goal.
- We see Loki reaction too. Loki wanted to join “Rocks Pirates” because he thought Rocks was the god “Nika”. However, Rocks told him that he wasn’t a god who wanted to destroy the world. He was a pirate who aimed for conquer the world in order to change it.
- Cut to the “Underground Detention Center” in the Marine Headquarters. Dragon was locked up in a cell and Garp went to see him. After a brief conversation, Garp threw the cell key to his son.
Dragon: “Pops… I’m quitting from the Navy.” Garp: “Yeah…” Dragon: “I despise you!!!” Garp: “Yeah…”
- Some time later we see Harald ready to set sail on Elbaph coast, he said goodbye to his family and friends.
Harald: “I have made up my mind Ida… Master Jarul… I will now devote everything I have for it. Hajrudin… Loki… You are both my sons and I love you. I want you two to work together.”
- Harald became more resolved to bring Elbaph into world community, but because he attacked that giant, the news spread that he was very violent. That’s why Harald decided to go to Marineford and talk directly with the Marines and the World Government.
Harald: “High officials of the “Navy” and “World Government”!! I ask that you spare my words some attention!!”
- Then, in the EPIC final double page of the chapter, Harald pulled out his horns!! After that, Harald knelt down and offered his break horns to the Marines and the World Government with his face covered in blood.
Harald: “Let me atone for what happened during the last 1000 years!!! I wish to apologize for all the mistakes the “Giants” have made!!! I wish to prove to you all that my oath for peace is sincere!! So that the “children of Elbaph” can live without having to hurt anyone!! So that they can live hand in hand with your children!!! Give me a chance to make up for our sins!!! I would become a slave if it’s for that cause!!!”
- In the last panel of the chapter we can see Imu’s eyes…

(Loki refers to Rocks in the third person)
Rocks: Nika?
Loki: He’s the Warrior of Liberation! He laughs… while he destroys the world!!
Rocks: Destroy? I want to become King of the World. If anyone had that kind of power, it’d be Harald.

One Piece 1167 Spoilers
We are getting a panel where Mariejois is burning due to Blackbeard’s attack. My other leaker says it is elbaph burning, and set fire by Loki in the past. We will know it soon enough but yes this is confirmed.
UPDATE: It is Mariejois and we get Fisher Tiger in the flashback.
Fisher tiger’s attack on Mariejois is in the flashback.
Aside from that Shanks and Shamrocks’s lore.
And last but not least, more into the summoning circle.
ENTIRE CHAPTER IS FILLED WITH LORE.
ONE PIECE 1167 BRIEF SPOILERS
- Harald had a mission from the World Government. He is now defeating pirates for them and has become known as a monster among the mist.
- Harald became a God’s Blade for the World Government.
- The WG seal/tattoo has three ranks — the lowest rank is God’s Blade (like Gunko).
- 15 years ago, Shanks is the one who freed Fisher Tiger. Later, he met Harald while covering/patching his left eye.
- Shanks was trying to gather information on Mary Geoise / the World Government.
- Ida gets poisoned by someone from Estrid’s hometown.
- Loki takes revenge on that village and declares: “Ida is my only mother.”
MORE BRIEF SPOILERS
One Piece Chapter 1167
- Harald gets tasked by the World Government to assist Marines by stopping a pirate ship drifting through thick haze, which later sparks talk of a huge shape haunting the Florian Triangle.
- Harald is called before the Five Elders, who mark his arm with the Shallow Sea seal, the first step of the three-part system: Shallow, Deep, Abyssal (Abyssal is the highest rank).
- After Roger’s death, the world plunges into the Great Pirate Era, and Marines begin recruiting giants to strengthen their forces.
- At the God Knights’ domain, Harald meets Garling, who gives him a creature used for instant contact.
15 years earlier: During Fisher Tiger’s escape, a masked God Knight cuts his restraints and lets him get away.
- Back in Mary Geoise, Harald is introduced to Shanks and Shamrock. Shanks has just agreed to a Shallow Sea pact and joins the God Knights immediately(Because his talents match the one of Shamrock who is also a rising star in Holy Land).
- Harald tries to recognize Shanks, but Shanks snaps at him as a “nobody.” Yet it is hinted that Shanks was the one who freed Tiger.
- On Elbaf, Ida becomes critically ill, and a healer from another land is needed. Harjudin sets sail to find one. Loki learns this and goes into rage, attacking Ida village because he thinks someone poisoned her.
ADDITIONAL SPOILERS
Oda mirrors Shanks and Shamrock together in this chapter; it’s really like two at once. The focus here is on both swords(mirrrors each other), in my opinion.
It could actually be true that Shanks’ sword carries a Devil Fruit power, parallel to Shamrock’s sword.
It makes more sense that Imu’s power/fruit is closer to that of a Sea Demon than anything else. Shallow Sea Deep Sea Abyssal Sea The deeper the sea gets, the stronger you become… Imu could actually be the Sea Devil.
Don’t you find it strange that we’re hearing about Florian Triangle again almost 15 years later? Right after Xebec said that the one who controls Galleila can conquer and destroy the world. This group is getting a lot of hype. They must be sealed/imprisoned somewhere.
If someone like Xebec says something like that, then this group must be really strong and dangerous. And just one chapter later, an ancient giant (Harald) is rampaging through the Florian Triangle, and many consider him a monster. This isn’t a coincidence.
Elbaf has a giant sword embedded in the island, but who wielded this giant sword? It suggests that the shadows we see in the Florian Triangle are the ancient giant army of Galleila.
They were banished there and can’t get out. Whoever ensures their release will also lead this army. It’s possible that there are extra giants, larger than normal islands. We don’t see a monster in Florian Triangle; the shadows could be Giants! (by worstgen)
ADDITIONAL SPOILERS
We learn in the chapter that Roger, Kaido, Whitebeard and Linlin conquering the seas after God Valley; they are portrayed as peak pirates.
-We learn now, from the spoilers, that Harald gets the same mark as the God knights & join the ranks. He also met Shanks and Shamrock.
-In current time, Shamrock comes to recruit Loki to be holy knight. I believe he truly was disgusted with this, since Loki took out Harald, someone shamrock might of became close with and reason why Sommers ask if he was visiting Harald grave!
Shanks design as “God Blade”? It’s almost identical to Shamrock’s, they’re very similar.
Shanks questions Shamrock extensively about the World Government/Holy Land, partly so that he can rise through the ranks as quickly as possible.
DETAILED SUMMARY
Chapter 1.167: “The son of Ida”.
Reader request in the cover: “Nojiko and Genzo looking at a cat that is trying to steal a book about fish”.
Harald was tasked by World Government to help the Marines in secret to defeat pirates as part of Harald’s vow to atone for “giants’ thousand years worth of sins”. We see Harald cutting a pirate ship in two in the middle of the sea.
Narrator explains that there was a rumor spreading among the countries on the Grand Line that on the seas with heavy mist, lived a monster that mainly targets pirates. But narrator says too that Harald is not the “Florian Triangle monster” because he attacked ships in other regions too.
Narrator says that after God Valley incident, some pirates that participated in that event conquered the seas (Roger. Newgate. Linlin, Kaidou…).
After Roger’s death, Harald was promoted by the Five Elders to “Devoted Blade of God” (a confidant of the “Knights of God”). He was marked with a tattoo on his left arm.
Harald: “What an honor!!”
Five Elders: “There are three stages to the “contract”. “Surface Sea Contract” is but a faint tie.
“Deep Sea Contract” and “Sea Floor Contract” are the real vows exchanged between the 13 chosen and “God”:”
Harald: “”God”…?”
Nusjuro: “If a day should come… where you are to be granted with the title of “Knight of God…”
Harald: “Will “Elbaph” be welcomed into the circle of “World Government” as well!?”
Five Elders: “Indeed.”
Garling gave Harald a long distance Den Den Mushi to contact him immediately when necessary.
Harald drunk with Neptune, who tells him his daughter was about to be born. Neptune joked that Loki and his daughter should got engaged. Harald referred to Shirahoshi as “mosamosa”:
15 years ago, during Fisher Tiger escape from Mary Geoise, we can see Hancock and her sisters too. A mysterious figure helped Fisher Tiger while he freed slaves. It’s clear that the mysterious figure was Shanks.
Harald arrived to the Holy Land during next days and saw Shanks talking with Shamrock in the city. – Shanks now lived in Mary Geoise with Garling and Shamrock. Shanks wore a “Knights of God” uniform like his brother and had a bandage over his left eye (no explanation about the injury on Shanks’ face in this chapter). Both were talking about Fisher Tiger incident.
Shanks: “Let’s go Shamrock, tell me more about the Holy Land. I want to capture the culprit so I can be useful!! Do we have any clue so far!?”

The Office, known for its clever, awkward humor and deeply relatable characters, has long been a staple for sitcom lovers. When Peacock announced The Paper as a spinoff, longtime fans approached it with cautious anticipation.
Spinoffs carry the weight of expectation, especially when following a cult favorite that balanced smart writing with emotional heart. Yet, The Paper has managed to carve out a space for itself.
While it embraces the mockumentary style that made The Office beloved, The Paper shifts focus to the struggles of a Midwestern newspaper trying to stay afloat in a rapidly changing industry. This fresh backdrop brings a new kind of vitality to workplace comedy, combining the familiar with the novel.
This change of scenery resonates differently but meaningfully, reflecting not just office dynamics but the real challenges facing traditional media today. The clunkiness of outdated systems, generational clashes, and the fight to preserve journalistic integrity become comedic fuel rather than just a backdrop.
Viewers witness a world that feels authentic and urgent, infused with moments of absurdity reminiscent of The Office’s awkward yet warm tone.
Importantly, The Paper consistently draws from surprisingly raw and sometimes uncomfortable comedic moments. For instance, Esmeralda Grand, with her eccentric and unabashed personality, adds unpredictability and hilarity, grounding the show in character-driven humor rather than relying solely on situational jokes.
Sabrina Impacciatore’s portrayal has become a highlight, turning initial polarizing reactions into appreciation for the fresh comedic flavor she brings. This gradual winning over of audiences showcases the series’ slow but steady growth.
Familiar DNA, A Different Tune
Viewers stepping in expecting The Paper to replicate The Office’s rapid-fire jokes and quintessential awkwardness might find the new series a slower burn. Unlike Michael Scott’s larger-than-life antics, The Paper offers a quieter, more contemplative exploration of office life and human connection.
It leans heavily on character arcs and intricate workplace struggles, allowing scenes to breathe and characters’ complexities to unfold over time.
This narrative approach has been a point of contention, with some fans craving the punchier humor they associated with The Office, while others find the thoughtful pacing refreshing. The central character, Ned, embodies the old-school newspaper editor desperately holding onto his principles amidst financial turmoil.
His earnest but often frazzled nature stands in stark contrast to The Office’s more blatantly comedic lead. This difference illustrates The Paper’s thematic goals juggling idealism and real-world cynicism.

Critics have noted that while the show isn’t perfect, it’s carefully shaping its distinct identity. The Paper no longer simply echoes its predecessor but attempts to speak to the evolving cultural and professional reality of its characters.
For fans, this means a chance to engage with stories that push beyond nostalgia, inviting them to reflect on modern work environments and societal change as much as laugh about them.
Why Give The Paper a Fair Shot?
The skepticism around The Paper is understandable. Spinoffs often struggle to meet the dual demands of honoring established lore and offering something fresh. Yet this show represents a thoughtful development within the mockumentary format, proving that comedy can evolve without losing charm.
The Paper’s sensitivity to the precarious state of journalism lends it significance and emotional weight often missing in purely comedic shows.
The pressure of preserving truth, struggling with dwindling resources, and dealing with interpersonal drama in a failing newspaper doesn’t just serve as a setting; it fuels much of the story’s tension and humor with sincerity. This grounding in reality adds layers, balancing the levity with depth that few sitcoms attempt.
In addition, the vibrant performances brought by the cast, especially Impacciatore’s Esmeralda, offer contrast and energy that prevent the show from feeling overly heavy.
Her unfiltered, unpredictable nature brings back some of that chaotic humor Office fans crave, while the rest of the ensemble builds slower, nuanced relationships, distinguishing The Paper’s pace and style.
Modern production values and writing also reflect the lessons learned since the original Office debuted, creating a show that feels connected yet contemporary.
Instead of expecting immediate laughs reminiscent of earlier seasons, viewers embracing The Paper’s rhythm will find humor rooted in character growth and workplace realities. This patient approach is already earning praise from critics and fans who’re willing to give the series time to mature and develop its voice.
Confronting Controversy and Expectations
The Paper debuted amid heated debate around its legitimacy and place in The Office legacy. A vocal portion of the fanbase criticized it for its slower pace and tonal differences, sparking concerns about diluting the original’s spirit. Critics were divided, with some praising its ambition and others dismissing it as lacking the original’s magic.
However, the controversy underscores a broader question prevalent in the streaming era: how legacy shows can innovate to stay relevant.
The Paper, in wrestling with these challenges, appears willing to take risks that can alienate but ultimately push the franchise’s boundaries. Its attempt to address current societal concerns is commendable, even if uneven in execution.
Reactions from fan communities reflect this tension. Online forums discuss the show’s merits and flaws, while some viewers hail it as a new chapter worth following. This split fosters a dynamic conversation about what makes a spinoff successful, whether adherence to nostalgia is paramount or evolution deserves applause.
The Future of The Paper and the Office Franchise
Looking ahead, The Paper’s trajectory depends heavily on continued audience investment and how it refines its identity. The show’s creators appear to be aware of striking a balance between homage and innovation, signaling potential growth in comedic timing, character depth, and relevant storylines.
The spinoff also reaffirms that The Office franchise is adaptable, capable of expanding into different territories and themes without losing its core appeal.
The Paper’s mix of humor, heart, and social commentary invites viewers to redefine what a workplace comedy can look like while honoring the spirit of awkward, deeply human storytelling that The Office made iconic.
For fans still on the fence, The Paper offers a chance to remain connected to a beloved universe while witnessing that world evolve through fresh perspectives and challenges. Its growing critical appreciation suggests it could become a cherished complement to the original, expanding The Office’s reach into new creative spaces.
The Paper may not be the instant classic The Office was from episode one, but it deserves patience and an open mind from viewers. Its unique blend of humor and heart, modern setting, and relatable characters provide a fresh path forward for fans craving quality comedy with substance.
Giving The Paper a chance means embracing evolution. Sometimes the best laughs come from surprises that initially feel uncomfortable but ultimately resonate deeply.
